Malaysia

Malaysia is a country in Southeast Asia. It is partly on a peninsula of the Asian mainland and partly on the northern third of the island of Borneo.   Its known for beaches and rainforests, as well as a mix of cultural influences.  It consists of thirteen states and three federal territories. It has a total landmass of 330,803 square kilometers or 127,720 square miles. What makes Malaysia unique is that its separated into two similarly sized regions by the South China Sea. These are the regions of Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia (Malaysian Borneo).

Peninsular Malaysia shares a land and maritime border with Thailand as well as maritime borders with Singapore, Vietnam, and Indonesia. East Malaysia shares land and maritime borders with Brunei and Indonesia as well as a maritime border with the Philippines and Vietnam. The most developed is the West Coast. The East Coast is more traditional Muslim.  In contrast, the South Comprises one state, two coastlines, and endless palm oil plantations.

West (peninsular) shares a border with Thailand. Its connected to the island state of Singapore by a causeway and bridge. It also has coastlines on the South China Sea as well as the Straits of Malacca. East Malaysia (Borneo) shares borders with Brunei and Indonesia.

Malaysia has excellent scuba diving too. The most famous dive site, and often ranked among the best in the world, is Sipadan, off the easternmost tip of Malaysian Borneo. Other popular spots are islands off the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. These include Perhentian, Redang, Tioman and many more.

While in Malaysia, you might want to go white water rafting or cycling. Maybe you want to spend some time on pristine beaches. Or, play a round of Golf or game of paintball. Or Maybe you would like to go further and experience the Jungle. There are many different types of Jungle expeditions available. You can choose an expedition for two days where you hardly lose sight of your hotel. Or you can become fully immersed in the jungle and choose a full 14 days.

WARNING: Malaysia treats drug offenses extremely harsh. The death penalty is mandatory and swift for those convicted of trafficking, manufacturing, importing or exporting more than 15 g of heroin, 30 g of morphine, 30 g of cocaine, 500 g of cannabis, 200 g of cannabis resin or 1.2 kg of opium. Possession of these quantities proves your guilt and guarantees your conviction. If the above evidence exists, the execution takes place in weeks.  If drugs are found in your bags, on your possession or in your room, you can face charges of trafficking.  It doesn’t matter if they are yours or not or if you weren’t aware of them. Be vigilant of your possessions.

For unauthorized consumption, there is a maximum of 10 years in jail, a heavy fine, or both. Even if illicit drugs were consumed outside of the country, you can still face charges for unauthorized consumption if traces of drugs are found in your system.

Above all, always Know the Laws to any country you are visiting. Ignorance is never an excuse in a court of law.
